Over the past few decades, the size and weight of gearboxes have been reduced, but they are still required to produce more power. The smaller gearboxes tend to have less oil and additive to lubricate the gears, which are now carrying higher loads. Synthetic Industrial Gear Oil provides the optimum additive chemistry to address these issues and will maximize efficiency, showing a 2% improvement over other synthetic gear oils, and up to an 8% improvement over commercial mineral-oil based industrial gear oils.

When providing protection for industrial gearboxes, one test performed is the DIN 51819-3, using a FE-8 bearing test rig. This test measures the effectiveness of gear oil on cylinder roller thrust bearings which are subjected to an axial force with measured temperatures over a period of 80 hours, and acceptable oils cannot allow more than 30mg of weight loss over the elements. The chemistry in Synthetic Industrial Gear Oil significantly prevents oxidation and thermal stress on the fluid, handling higher temperatures better than many other fluids on the market. Compared to several standard industrial gear oils on the market run in the FZG Gear Test, Synthetic Industrial Gear Oil produced a 62°F temperature reduction. During operation, Synthetic Industrial Gear Oil has performed exceptionally well in the steel mill industry where gear oils are exposed to very harsh conditions.
